Long-term study of the Danube ferry Ottensheim - status after 35,000 hours
ENVIRAL® Austria
We have already reported several times on the long-term study of the Danube ferry of Ottensheim, which has been ongoing since 08/09/2012 (see related News below).
The test panel was subjected to a further test after 35,000 hours or 3 years and 363 days with permanent water contact. After cleaning the heavily soiled panel (Fig. 1), it could be seen that its condition is still good. It is particularly interesting to note that the edge facing away from the flow has more damage on the surface than the edge facing the flow (Fig. 2). Also, the outer surface, which experiences more flow pressure, carries significantly more damage than the surface facing the boat (Fig. 3 + 4).
Since it is currently the thawing period and the Danube has ice floes, the test was interrupted after the completion of this inspection. However, the test will be continued as soon as the snow has completely melted. We will keep you informed about the results of this inspection at this point.
